The Julian Alps are the most easterly extension of the great Alpine Range, stretching from North-East Italy into Slovenia through the Triglav National Park. The jagged limestone peaks offer some of Europe’s best scenery and walking, with Mount Triglav (the highest in Slovenia) at the centre of the range, and the glacial lakes.
Julian Alps hiking holiday will take you on a picturesque mountain tour, guiding you through the high alpine area and its many natural attractions. The tour covers the central region of the Triglav National park.
Programme
This 2 – day hike leads to the top of Triglav 2864 m, the highest Slovenian mountain. The Triglav mountain chain is the central part of the Triglav National Park, after which Slovenia’s only national park was named. In recent years, the famous peak has been incredibly popular among foreign mountaineers, even though it is said that Triglav as the symbol of the Slovenian nation should be on the list of mountains of every Slovenian at least once in their lifetime.
We start and finish the hike at the same point, in beautiful valley of Krma. We will sleep in Triglavski dom na Kredarici. From there, we’ll go to the top and we can descend the same way.
1 day:
By prior arrangement, I will come looking for your hotel and take you to the Krma Valley, where our start for Mt. Triglav. The easy route from here leads to the mountain hut Dom na Krederica (2511m), where we have reserved half board.
Walking for 4 – 5 hours. Altitude differences for around 1700m.
Day 2:
After breakfast at the mountain hut, head towards the top Mt, Triglav 2864m. The descent follows the path of the Krma Valley.
